Susan Wright won her first singles gold ball on clay in Pensacola. Seeded 2nd, she beat the 4th seed, Leslie Murveit in the rain delayed final. She then combined with Marianne Robertson to win the doubles over Airola/Sherri Bronson in a lengthy match which concluded at 11:15 pm on Saturday. Airola/Bronson led by a set and 5-3, but the defending champions hung on to eke out the win. Top seeded Diane Fishburne came down with the flu and had to default in the semis of the singles and doubles, and several other players were hit hard by the flu later in the week.
Rentata Marcinkowska successfully defended her singles title, dropping only a few games en route to the win. She took out Anna Zimmerman, unseeded, in the final. Vesna McKenna/Joanne Russell won the 40 doubles over Carolyn Wei/Chris Ramsower-Pearlstein. It was McKenna’s first gold ball!
