Brenda Carter, 60s; Irene Shepard, 80s and Dorothy Matthiessen, 70s, took home singles and doubles titles from the national clay courts in Huntsville. Carter beat her doubles partner, Betty Wachob in the singles final and combined with her to defeat Kathy Bennett/Lianne Bryson. Dorothy Matthiessen likewise beat her doubles partner, Dori deVries in the final before combining with her to beat Roz King/Nancy Reed. Shepard staged a terrific singles comeback, trailing a set and 3-0 to Rita Price before rallying to win in 3 sets. She and Maloney beat Jane Lutz/Marilyn Skiffington in the doubles final. The men’s 45s clay courts were held last week in Ft Lauderdale. There was a plethora of upsets. Horacio Rearte beat Michael Rose in the final of the singles. Charlton Eagle/Paul Smith won the doubles over Tres Cushing/Kim Forsythe in three sets. For all results, click here.
