San Isidro, Buenos Aires 2008, Finals

The tournament finished for me today, and I won the 50s, beating Beatrice Villaverde (who beat the #2 seed, Fritelli, 60 60 yesterday…Fritelli is ranked in the top 10 of the 50s by the ITF too.). I beat Villaverde 62 61. It was windy again today, which probably helped me, since not too much clay got into my eyes today. It was nice and warm today too.

Vasconcellas, who beat Vesna McKenna yesterday, won the 40s today, 67 62 61…

Heide Orth won the 60s and in so doing she won her fourth grade 1 tournament in the 60s for the year, and will end the year ranked #1 in both the 60s and 65s, quite a feat, even for the ageless Heide.

Nanda Fischer won the 65s, 62 62 in the final.

Isabelle Gemmel won the 35s, beating a very good player, the #2 seed, 64 61 in the final. She was just too consistent for her opponent.

Peter Nader won the 70s, dropping only a game in the final, his second win in two weeks by the same score. He’s off next week to Uruguay, his fourth tournament in as many weeks, as he and his wife are on a So American tour to celebrate his 70th birthday.

I’m off now to the unicenter, one of the biggest shopping areas in Buenos Aires…apparently it’s open till 10pm every day…then tomorrow off to the city of Buenos Aires for two days. I’ll post some more photos later today or probably tomorrow morning.
