SoCal, Florida into the 55 Final; Florida, Southern face off in the 65 Final

SoCal beat Mid Atlantic today 5/0 to reach the final against host Florida in Boca Raton today. Florida beat NorCal to reach the final behind strong singles from Kerry Young, Mary Ginnard and Tracy Viebrock.

SoCal’s Carolyn Nichols beat Peg Machoian 60 61 at #1 singles; Robin Harris, SoCal beat Rita Giles 76 61 (Robin drove the ball in the first set but mixed up loops, drives, and forays to the net in the second set.); Chris Ramsower-Pearlstein gutted out a victory over Terry Solins at #3 singles, 67 61 75. After singles, MATA was only able to field three fit players; SoCal’s Kathy Bennett/Jackie Heston won at #1 doubles, and MATA defaulted #2 doubles, though SoCal and MATA players took the court for some fun doubles anyway.

In the Florida/NorCal match, Leslie Murveit played great to win the first set against Kerry Young 76 but pulled her groin (and admittedly needed to play 110% to win) and retired after dropping the second set 60. Ginnard won 63 63 over Kathy Barnes. Tracy won but I don’t know the score.

In the 65s, Southern upset SoCal 4/1 and swept the singles. Florida won easily to advance to the final.

In the 75s, Florida is in the semis and plays Middle States. Southern is the 2nd seed and in the semis.

In the 80s I unfortunately didn’t talk to anyone, though Florida is the team to beat for sure!

Gala dinner tomorrow, hope to have some photos up by Friday.
