Susan Wright completed her third doubles gold slam at Chamisal Club, combining with Tina Karwasky to win the final decisively over Andrea Barnes/Anne Lowry. She also won the World Championships in 55 doubles earlier this year and is ranked #1 in the world in 55 doubles. It was Wright’s 11th Gold ball of 2012 and Karwasky’s 10th (Karwasky won the gold slam in 60 singles and doubles earlier in the year and the world title in singles and doubles.) Kandy Chain/Chris Ramsower-Pearlstein took the bronze by default over Sue Sprague/Roylee York.
Wright also beat me in singles, 76 60..her only loss in the 55s in national play was in the final of the clay courts. She won the Indoors, Grass and Hard. Sherri Bronson won a long, tough three setter over Leslie Murveit 67 75 62.
Manola (Murillo) Colter of NM and Chile, unseeded, won the 45s, beating Shelly Works and Tracy Houk en route to the final where she beat Anna Zimmerman. Her footwork was impeccable all week. Houk won the bronze over Vicky Cosio.
Sophie Woorons-Johnston overpowered Amy Alcini 61 60 in the 35 final. Marlo Carruth won the bronze.
Kristen Hilebrand/Michelle Bynum beat Jami Patterson/Shelly Works in the 35s final and then edged Patterson/Zimmerman in three sets to win the 45s. Alcini/Alissa Finerman won the bronze in the 35 doubles and Houk/Karwasky took the 45 bronze.
Brenda Carter added the doubles title to the singles title she won yesterday, combining with Anne Russ to beat Carmen Almodovar/Grant. Loose/Smith won the bronze.
Today there was a big rain delay at the start of the day, resulting in late matches again, as play didn’t begin till just after noon.

Thanks for the update on all the results. So, happy for so many of my old and new friends with their successes. Again, and again, thanks to you for keeping us all informed. All the best at Intersectionals and the rest of the year in your world travels. You are the very best! Hope to stay healthy to get to the next Individual World Championships next year, so I might visit Prague which I’m told is very beautiful. rita
