Yesterday, Saturday the 6th of July, was my last day at Global Tennis Team. I hit with Alfonso at 12:30 on day which was overcast and cooler than Friday (which was scorching).

After I hit, I headed off for Santanyi. I have this book, top 10 of everything in Mallorca…Santanyi was one of the top 10 villages. It was a pretty long drive across the Island to the west. I stopped on the way to pick up something for lunch, and after eating continued on across the flat center of the island, which is largely agricultural…hay, sheep (currently they look rather naked, as they have recently been shorn of their wool coats), vineyards, olive trees, a few almonds, and more.
I arrived at Santanyi, which is a pretty little village and mostly quiet as it wasn’t a market morning. The center is dominated by a large church. There are a lot of artists and artists’ shops in Santanyi, and some other shops selling typical Mallorcan goods, such as salt and baskets, and a lot of clothing shops selling light dresses. There are also many cafes and some restaurants, but it was around 4:30pm so there weren’t a lot of people around.

After leaving Santanyi, I headed off the Castell Santeuri, a castle ruin on top of a small hill about 1200 feet high. The sky was getting darker, and I was the only one on the road most of the time…good thing too, it was pretty narrow (aren’t all Mallorcan roads which aren’t freeways?), lined by fields, bordered by old stone walls of various ages. Picturesque comes to mind.
I thought the castle was open till 6:30, but my guidebook is out of date in regards to that and it looked as if it had been closed for years. However, I was able to see the outside, walk up a bit and the view was fantastic…or would have been had the thunderclouds not been dominating the horizon. I could see all the way to the sea though, and it was worth a detour, if not a specific trip to visit.

After leaving the castle (I could hear thunder rumbling in the distance), I headed back west to Pina. Along the way it rained pretty heavily, but stopped before I reached Pina. Once in Pina (which is TINY), I walked to the town square, and found out there was a festival going on (and had been since the afternoon before), which a bandstand set up in front of the church, a drinks station, an a hamburger/kebab station (next to the candy kiosk). The Church is the Church of San Cosme and San Damian.

And that was Saturday in Mallorca.
