The Women’s National 40 & 50 Indoor Championships began today. I’ve been here a couple extra days to try and feel out the courts and lighting, not to mention altitude indoors. In the last two months, I’ve played on green clay in the Florida heat, and on hard courts in the heat spell at La Jolla where it was close to triple digits. I must have a screw loose !! Maria Nunez arrived early and we were lucky to get some hitting in. She played today, and won 6-4, 6-0. She plays Erika Smith from Oakland, California who won today, in her first round. I have a bye. Marlo Carruth, from So Cal (originally from Fresno in NorCal though so she’s all right!) is seeded # 1 in the Women’s 40 division. She also had a bye, so we got a couple of sets in today. I feel like I had a tough first round match, so, hopefully I’ll be ready tomorrow. If the draws are put in, you can see who is playing. I’ll have more to report tomorrow. Ciao
