Trudy Vermeer, Amy Alcini Vie For 40 Claycourt Title

Trudy Vermeer upset top seed Vesna McKenna quarters at the 40 Claycourts, held for the first time at the BallenIsles Country Club in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Julie Pressley Farina rallied from a set down in the quarters to beat Michelle King, then pushed Vermeer to the limit before Vermeer won the third set tiebreak. Vermeer really showed off her improved fitness, which she will need against Amy Alcini in the final. Alcini was leading by a set and 4/0 when Mary Beth Williams, the 2nd seed, had to retire with a pulled hamstring. Nonetheless, Williams King pushed Alcini/McKenna, the top seeds, to the limit before Alcini/McKenna prevailed 64 in the third set. They face Mary Dailey/Trish Riddell in the final tomorrow.

  1. Wish I were there to see great tennis, but hope to see all you young “whippersnappers” in my hometown at Meadow Creek in June, and I’ll be on hand to snap a few shots and cheer for great tennis! Thanks for making my day! ciao
