Alassio Day 3: Arrival of the Sun!

Draws are here.

Day three for me in the tournament semifinal day. It was Groundhog Day since I warmed up again with Ellen at 7 AM. She played first match at 8:30 and I played second match of the day after the 830 match on my court finished. That match was a women’s 65 match between Barbara Nowack and Laura De Vittori of Germany and Italy, respectively. It was interesting because Barbara lost the first set to her opponent yesterday 60 at which time her opponent retired injured. Today Barbara came out like gangbusters and won 61 62, playing like she often does very aggressively.

I played Marie Christine Deleuse of France. She upset the number four seed yesterday. I played pretty well today and won in about an hour.

The match after line on the same court was the other semifinal in the women’s 70s between a Spanish player, Carmen and an Italian player Marta, the number two and number three seeds, respectively. The first set was level at 4-4 when I left and Carmen ended up winning 6464. We played a couple of times last year and she’s the first person I will play here whom I have played previously.

Ellen, unfortunately, had a tough go against Betty Michel of France who is an excellent player. But she has doubles this afternoon.

Marie Christine and me, one of the tournament officials lining the court before our match, Ellen in pink and myself after practice this morning and an overview of court one through five in the sunshine

I went back to have lunch, went back to the club after that to have a bit of massage and then went into the town to actually see the sea in sunshine. I walked out onto the pier, and there was a nice view of the town, the coast and also of the little fish swimming under the pier. The water is really clear on the Ligurian Sea (which is a part of the Mediterranean Sea).

Alassio on a sunny afternoon

On my way back to my apartment the first time I ran into the friend of a Chinese player who is playing here, and ran into her again in the town. People told me her friend was quite a good player…in the 40s, which starts Thursday or Friday. (Corrected).

I assume I will play the final tomorrow, and I have plans for a hike afterwards.
