The Women’s 85 team, led by Dorothy Wasser at #2 (captain) and Carol Wood at #1 won the Women’s 85/Angela Mortimer Cup today, winning both singles matches in match tiebreaks after losing their opening sets (perhaps they need more coffee at breakfast!). Dorothy won 36 61 10-3 and Carol won 67 62 10-2. I saw the latter match tiebreak and it was brilliant by Carol, who, though lacking in mobility, makes up for it in anticipation and who also has a superb serve, a relic of her badminton days. Mary Winden and Sheila Palmer are playing the doubles as I write.

Jimmy Parker won what he thought was his 16th Cup, over France (Men’s 80, Gardnar Mulloy Cup). Jody Rush won at #2, Jimmy at #1 and Dean Corley/Fred Drilling were up a set last I heard, in the doubles.

In men’s 85 (Lorne Main Cup), Don Matthias at #2 and Bob Quall at #1 won singles in straight sets over Austria; Willie Wolff/Jerald Hayes were playing doubles.

The Men’s 65 and 70 were both successful today. The men’s 65s won the “unlucky losers” bracket, finishing 9th; the men’s 70s beat Spain to finish 9th…Dennis Englebrecht won 63 ret; Norm Ashbrooke lost at #1 and Tom Smith/Danny Carlson took the doubles point.

The men’s/women’s 75 will play for third tomorrow; the Women’s 65/70 will play for gold and the women’s 80s will play for 5th. W65 are below.
