The ITF Masters World Team Championships begin on Sunday in Mallorca near Capdepera.

Today the USA teams were arriving and most were practicing. My team is Susan Wright, Orlando, Bunnie Jackson, Bluffton, SC, Carolyn Lane, Phoenix, AZ and myself from Rancho Santa Fe, CA.

This morning Bunnie, Carolyn L and Susan went for a grocery run while I tried to sign our team in…we were told we could sign in from 10am. Then 2pm-5pm. But there was no one there at 4:30…I’ll try again tomorrow.

We practiced from 11-12:30, had a quick lunch and drove to Manacor to see the Nadal Academy, which is more impressive in the physical structure each year. The dorms, clay courts and padel courts which were under construction last year are now completed, and there are nearly as many clay as hard courts now, and seven clay are under a roof (open on the sides); there are also three indoor courts with a nice high ceiling.

We visited the pro shop at the Rafa Nadal Club next door and ran into some of the men’s 70s team, Lenny Wofford and Dave Sivertson. The shop has a ton of racquets and shoes and a lot of clothes too.

I later ran into the women’s 85s and most of the men’s 85 team (Wilbur Jones, a last minute substitution was missing).
