The USA Women’s 50 (Maria Bueno) Cup team advanced with a 3/0 victory over France today in the quarterfinals today in Rome. Amanda Parson-Siegel won in three sets and Julie Thu at #1 singles rallied from 4/1 and 5/2 in the 2nd set to win 75 76. The thought of having to play another set against Julie is too much for most players! Julie and Francesca La O won the doubles point too. Next up in the semis: Switzerland.

The Women’s 55 lost 2/1 to Great Britain. Kathy Settles lost at #2 and Debbie Nasim was edged at #1 singles in three sets. USA won the doubles point. They now play for 5th.

The Men’s 55 lost to Spain, dropping both singles points before winning the doubles when Spain defaulted it. Playing Spain in the heat on red clay is a tough task for the strongest of players. Both singles matches were tight but went the way of the Spaniards. They now play for 5th.

The Men’s 50s beat Canada 2/1, winning the doubles point decisively after splitting the singles. They advance to the 9-12 group.
