USA Wins Alice Marble Cup & Medals in Five Cups

We won the Alice Marble Cup today 2/0 but it wasn’t easy against France. I started at #2 singles against Caroline Glazmann. It was good to have the same first name as my opponent…every time her teammate encouraged her by saying “Allez Caroline” I just pretended she was rooting for me! I won the first set 61 but got down 42 before figuring things out and winning the set 64 to put us up 1/0. Tina then played Benedict LeGrand who played a terrific match to push Tina very hard. Benedict won the first set 63. The second set was nip and tuck and featured…wait for it…12 service breaks (it is women’s 60s after all). Tina then went up 5/0 in the tiebreak; Benedict rallied to 5-5 and Tina finally won  the tiebreak  on a beautiful lob 8-6. The third set was 61 for Tina (though every game was close) and the USA successfully defended the Marble Cup.
