World Championships in Turkey, Super Senior

 
The Americans are doing very well in the individual world championships in Turkey. In the women’s 75’s, the 4 semifinalists are the 4 members of the Queens Cup for the USA: Louise Russ will play Olga Mahaney and Jane Lutz (who upset British #1, Betty Howard 63 63), will play Diane Hoffman. Rita Price beat the 4th seed before falling the Mahaney in the quarters.
 
In the 70’s, Boots Van Nostrand and Mary Boswell have reached the semis; they are on opposite sides of the draw.
 
In the 65’s, both Dori deVries and Susanne Clark reached the quarters and lost to the 2nd and top seeds respectively.
 
In the women’s 60s, the American singles players have lost, but Suella Steel and her partner are the top seeds, and Charleen Hillebrand and her partner are the 2nd seeds.
 
In the men’s events, the Americans are faring even better.
 
Jimmy Parker and Leland Housman are in teh semis of the 60 singles; Parker/Ken Robinson and Housman/Hugh Thompson are in the doubles quarters.
 
In the 65’s, the American singles players lost, Bachman split sets in the quarters, then retired. Sarantos/Leichtfried are the top seeds in doubles; Bachman and partner reached the semis with a walkover in the quarters.
 
In the 70’s King Van Nostrand and Gordon Davis are the top seeds and have reached the semis. Neither has lost a set on the clay in either event, the cups or the worlds. Richard Doss and Davis are the top seeds in doubles.
 
In the 75’s, Russell Seymour has reached the semis but now faces Lorne Main who has dominated the 75’s all year. Chuck DeVoe and Clem Hopp reached the quarters.
 
In the 80’s, Tony Franco and Graydon Nichols are in the semis. Franco faces Jirkovsky, the #1 seed in the semis. The two are the top seeds in doubles but have yet to play a match.
