Chamisal, Tuesday

Greetings from the Monterey Penninsula, one beautiful part of the world.

The 35/85 hard courts began today. There were 2 minor upsets in the 65s: Nanda Fischer beat Wende Walter in 2 close sets and plays Lurline Fujii next; and Terri Eggers, out for 8 months with rotator cuff issues, edged Gloria Carter in 3 sets. The top 4 seeds prevailed.

The match of the day in the 45s was Susan Wright and Kathy Vick. It was a very well played match, with unbelievably low, hard shots by both players. Vick approached the net more than ususal and had good success there but Wright hit some great hard flat winners on crucial points. Wright prevailed 75 63. Kim Lackey/Kathy Chassion upset the 6th seeds in doubles, Pam Dodman/Mary Johnson 63 62. They face Mary Dailey/Myke Loomis, 64 63 winners over Hartley/Hulsen. All other seeds prevailed.

The weather is very cool…foggy still mornings followed by windy sunny afternoons…typical coastal weather. The tournament is well run by the TD Scott Krueger and Lonnie Gibbs the referee and has an experienced crew of rovers.
