Graydon Nichols, John Powless Double Down on the Grass in Orange

Graydon Nichols won the 80 grass singles and doubles for the third straight year in Orange NJ. He beat his doubles partner, Tony Franco, in the final in a repeat of the world championships last December, also on grass. Nichols won 64 64. Franco upset #2 seeded Clem Hopp in the semis 43 ret and Nichols beat Jason Morton for the third time in three tries this year but in another close match, 75 64. Franco/Nichols won the doubles in a repeat of the 80 clay court doubles final, over Hopp/Morton, but much less dramatically, 62 62, barely beating the tropical storm that swept through the NY area on Sept 6th.

John Powless also repeated as the grass court champion in Orange, beating George McCabe in the final and combining with Richard Doss to beat McCabe/Jack Vredevelt also in a repeat of the clay court final.
