Wednesday/Thursday/Friday the knockout rounds (quarters/semis/finals) and placement rounds are played to determine the Cup champions.
USA W60: USA beat Netherlands 3/0. Vicki Buholz won at #2 singles over Carole DeBruin; Jenny Klitch rallied from 1-4 and 4-5 down against Lisa Prechtel (a multiple time world champion, as is Klitch) to win 75 60 and Christina Kaus/Jenny Rens Keller won the doubles point (must have been the cookies). The team takes on Spain next.

USA M60: The USA is playing in the 9-16th place group and started strongly, beating Argentina 3/0.

USA W65: The USA beat a tired Canadian team 3/0. (They played from 9:30 am to around 7:30 pm yesterday, first losing to France then beating Italy 2/1 with Erin Boynton playing two singles at #1 and the deciding doubles. (She did not play today). Susan Wright played #2 singles; Ros Nideffer won at #1 and Anne Frautschi/Shannon Carney took the doubles point.

USA M65: The USA beat Uruguay today with the loss of only two games amongst three matches; Mark Vines at #2 singles, Bill Moss at #1 singles and Neil Levinson/John Valastro in doubles is a strong lineup.

USA W70: We beat #3 seeded Great Britain today in a de-facto semifinal to win our four team group today. Tina played Caroline Blincoe, whom she’d never faced before and once she figured out her strategy (and made her run in the heat and humidity), played a fast second set to win 64 60. I went to run and stretch after the first set and barely made it back to see match point! I played world #3 Pauline Fisher at #1 singles and won 60 61 and had to do some serve and volleying to get to some of her drop shots. There are a lot of great drop shots among the British players. Pat Purcell and Betsy Kuhle played a good match to beat Ann Brown/Jane Rushby 62 63 in doubles, winning the last 5 games with nearly error free tennis. We play #4 seeded Australia tomorrow; they lost to France today; Great Britain (3) takes on second seeded France in the other semi.

USA M70: The men’s 70s continued to play on cruise control with Joe Rasgado at #2 and Danny Waldman at #1 winning comfortably and Chris Bennett/Dave Sivertson taking the doubles point against Austria.
