The USA Women’s 40s (Young Cup) team advanced to the gold medal match on Friday with a 2/1 victory over Germany in the semis today (Thursday August 5). The USA swept the singles with Anda Perianu beating Katharine Rath 60 61 at #2 singles and Mariko Fritz-Krockow clinching the win at #2 singles over Eileen Ariana’s-Roth 64 62. Germany salvaged the doubles with a 62 46 10-7 win over the Americans. USA will face Italy in the final.
The USA Men’s 40s team lost 2/1 to Portugal in the semis Thursday. Goncalo Nicaue beat Phil Frayssinoux 75 64 and Fred Gil took out Rylan Rizza 75 62 to clinch the win at #1 singles. The USA won the doubles point. USA will play Great Britain for the bronze medals Friday.
The USA Women’s 45 team beat Turkey 3/0 and will play for fifth on Friday against Netherlands.
The USA Men’s 45 team lost 3/0 to France today and will face Australia in the 11/12 playoff on Friday.
