Draws for individual World Championships.
USA W60: USA Won the Cup!!!! They beat Italy 3/0. Vicki Buholz won at #2 singles 63 60. (corrected). Jenny Klitch spotted Italy’s Scola a set 63 before winning the final sets 62 63 to Win the Alice Marble Cup. Italy defaulted the doubles to USA.

USA M60: The USA beat Finland 2/0 to place 9th, winning three matches after losing to Mexico in the round robin. Ross Hessler (#2 singles) and Andy Stoner (#1 singles) won the Cup.
USA W65: USA lost a heartbreaker to an Australian team led by the Ros Balodis. Susan Wright played Michelle Hill and lost 76 (8) 26 76, and nearly put Hill in the hospital. The match began at 10:15am and finished at 1:45 pm on a very hot and steamy day…it was around 93 degrees and humid today. Susan held off a match point at 4-5 in the third and had two match points herself at 6-5. Ros Nideffer was up next against Balodis, a match everyone was eagerly anticipating…bets were made and a crowd was gathered. Balodis began strongly, and led 64 31 40-15…then Nideffer made her move and won the second set 64 and the third 6-0…so it was down to the doubles with Nideffer/Wright vs Balodis/Leanne Swaysland. The Aussies won in two tight sets to take the gold.

USA M65: The USA Men’s 65 team also played Australia and won the #2 singles point behind the strong play of Mark Vines; Bill Moss played a good match against the legendary Glenn Busby losing 64 75, but the Aussies won the doubles point to take the gold.

USA W70: USA played France in the final, in a battle of the top two seeds. Tina Karwasky started off against Caroline Glazmann and played a great match, winning 63 61. I played Benedict Le Grand at #1 singles, and avenged a loss to her from last year’s Cup, winning 62 60 to win the Cup! Betsy Kuhle/Pat Purcell won the doubles over Sylvie/Patricia 62 60 to make it a sweep.

USA M70: The USA played Australia in the final (there seems to be a theme here) and fell 2/1; Chris Bennett lost at #2 singles; Dan Waldman won at #1 singles and the Aussies took the doubles point.
