Today, Thursday was a busy one with lots of tennis. Betsy Kuhle and I practiced from 9-10:30, dropped off our gear in our rooms and went in search of an ATM (me) and pharmacy (Betsy) and found both by walking out the gate and to the left. The Turkish Lira is now about 50 to a dollar (when I first came to Turkey it was more like 5 to the dollar…rampant inflation and currency devaluation).
We went next to lunch, then practiced another two hours after lunch. Andrea and Tina arrived around noon.
After tennis I returned to my room to stretch, shower, do laundry in the sink and relax. Then of course it was time for dinner. The 60s players except for Jenny Klitch who is coming later, arrived in time for dinner (Bill Moss too captain M65).
It was Friday so lots of baklava for dessert and also lots of fish among other things for dinner. The Beach restaurant was open though we didn’t realize it till later. Same food format but mostly open air with a barbecue working for the fish.

The seeds and format came out for the 60/65/70 men & women. Some formats of play and seeds changed a bit.
Women’s 60s:
- USA
- Spain
- Germany
- Sweden
- France
- Netherlands
Seeds 5 & 6 (France, Netherlands) will be drawn by lot into the groups with Germany and Sweden. There are four groups of 4 teams I believe for the round robin portion.
Women’s 65:
- Australia
- USA
- France
- Great Britain
Women’s 70:
- USA
- France
- Australia
- Great Britain
There are three groups of three teams. Australia and Great Britain will be drawn into the same group. Then there will be a knockout draw consisting of six teams; the groups A & B (with the top 2 seeds) will be given byes and the second place team from Groups A & B and the top two finishers from Group C will be placed into the quarterfinals.
Men’s 60:
- France
- Spain
- Netherlands
- Germany
- Austria
- USA
- Sweden
- Great Britain
There are 6 groups with Great Britain being put into Group G on the bottom line, and two “lucky losers” going into the quarters.
Men’s 65:
- France
- Spain
- USA
- Austria
- Great Britain
- Australia
There are six groups with the winners of each group and two “lucky losers” going into the quarters.
Men’s 70:
- Australia
- Great Britain
- France
- Spain
- USA
- Netherlands
There are six groups with the winners of each group and two “lucky losers” going into the quarters.
