Tisa Kilburn won the 50 singles the hard way, beating Susan Wright in the semis 36 75 64 (rallying from 52 down in the second…Susan said she just switched gears and lost about 2 points in five games) and Vincenza Massaro in the final 57 64 64. Susan received a default in the 3/4 playoff (her opponent hurt her back playing Massaro, which Massaro’s doubles partner had mentioned to me last night).
The 60s isn’t finished yet but Susan Boyer upset Fran Chandler 64 62 today (hopefully she didn’t hurt Fran too!) and Susie Hatch from Canada avenged her doubles partner’s loss to Daniela Esswein, beating her 61 64. Chander won third by default over Esswein. (not an injury). I lost to Boyer yesterday, won the first set and hurt/reinjured my foot second point of the second set. I tried to overpower Susan which pretty much is impossible…she was playing very well, I was lucky to win the first set! Hopefully it will heal with some rest…well it will heal, it’s just when! Esswein played a near perfect match to upset Erin Boynton, the #2 seed yesterday.
Kathy Heinze, my first round opponent, easily won the 70s, not dropping more than three games in any match.
Carolann Castell won a marathon against Frances Dickenson, 36 63 63 to take the 80 singles title, playing her first tournament/year in the 80s.
In doubles, local favorites Tara Pressley and Sylwia Stanley won the four team round robin…the draw though small was tough and the tennis was really fun to watch.
The 50s Adrienne Simmons/Jill Gardner, the #2 seeds won the five team RR.
Suzie Hatch/Erin Boynton won the 60s over Susan and me, since I could not play today (maybe they would have anyway, they were playing well)…was hoping to but the doctor said no.
Jan Cochran and Susie Peiffer won the 70s doubles.
Robbie Dimond/Betsy Cheesman won the two team 80 doubles.
Sorry for the lack of photos…I didn’t go and watch today and forgot yesterday.
