Herm Ahlers, world #1, beat Robert Ouwendijk Greg Kohls had a good tournament, knocking off the #4 and #5 seeds before falling to Ahlers.
The 65s were full of upsets, but William Bethard beat . (4) Allan Drazen to win the title. Bethard beat the top seed, Michael Stewart in the round of 16.
Frank Zebot beat Charlie Hoeveler in 3 sets to win the men’s 60s.
55s Final: Wesley Jackson vs Geoff Cykman
50s Final: Myron Pushyk vs Sal Castillo
45s Final: Mike Fedderly vs Glenn Erikson (an "all Desert" match)
40s: Greg Falla (who upset #1 seed Curtis Dunn in 3 sets) and Elson De Cantuaria
35s: Oren Motevassel (who won the semis by default) and Jim Slonac, who edged Tony Yang 76 in the third (wonder if Jim was doing a rain dance Sat night?)
Women:
80s: Felice Rolfes won the 4 player round robin, Janet Hubbard was 2nd
75s: Anneke Balics took advantage of her first year in the 75s, racing through the draw and beating Peggy Francis in the final. Peggy upset Joyce Jones the #2 seed while Balics took out the #1 seed, Margaret Canby
70s: Dori deVries played terrific tennis all week, beating Kathy Langer in the final.
65s: Cathie Anderson edged her doubles partner, Sinclair Bill, in the final in 3 sets.
60s: Wilma Lee, all business in her first year in the 60s, beat Janet Watanabe in the final. Watanabe easily beat Elizabeth Barnhill, the top seed in the semis.
55s: Crys Ren vs Martha Downing
50s: Tracy Thompson (new to the 50s) vs Phyllis Blackwell (who edged Sherri Bronson in the final)
45s: Kathy Vick vs Mariana Hollman
40s: Carolyn Wei (new to the 40s) vs Amy Alcini
