First off, congratulations to all the winners and players in Crete for their play and for surviving the illness which laid low several players during the week.
Sue Kimball won the 80s singles over the legendary Gail Benedetti. They had a very close match in the team event and Sue turned the tables in the individuals, winning 63 64 to claim the title. She finished second in doubles (with Betty Wachob).
Michael Beautyman beat Jimmy Parker in the all-American men’s 80 final 4-1 retired. Beautyman and Parker were narrowly defeated by Chris Ornstein/Richard Tutt 11-9 in the match tiebreaker.
Liane Bryson (rallying from a set and break down) won yet another world title in women’s doubles, teaming with Ann Stanley to beat Susan Jamieson (NZL) and Sheryl Kerwick. Ann sent me the photo below…she’s ecstatic to win! Brenda Carter and Mary Alici Pisani won the women’s doubles over Kimball/Wachob. Judith Smith won the 90 doubles with Carol Wood.
King Van Nostrand won the 90 Men’s doubles with Herbert Althaus (who also beat King in the 90 singles final…Mr. Althaus can really run).
Judith Smith/Jerald Hayes won the 90 mixed (unseeded).
