Rain delayed play till about 2:30 today and even then most matches didn’t start till later. Then it was bitterly cold and very windy, miserable conditions for play.
The USA Men’s 75 & 80 had the day off as did the USA Women’s 60, 70 & 75 teams. Those teams are all into the semis of the knockout portion of the tournament.
The USA Men’s 60s, Von Cramm Cup team won 2/0 vs Canada, Paul Wulf won in 3 sets, dropping the first set then winning comfortably and Larry Turville at #1 in straight sets.
The USA men’s 65s,Britannia Cup also won 2/0 vs Gr Britain, with Armistead Neely winning in three sets (dropping the first set) and Brian Cheney winning at #1.
The USA men’s 70 have split the singles against the Czeck Republic, with Allan Carter winning at #2 singles and Fred Drilling falling in three sets at #1 singles.
The USA women’s 65s, Kitty Godfree have no scores reported, and I don’t know what happened there. Correction!!!!:
USA beat split with Netherlands 1/1; Carol Clay won in 3 sets and Brenda Carter took out LOST to the world champion from 2010 in straight sets (Ellie Krocke).
The deciding doubles was played this morning. The women’s 80s, Doris Hart Cup, swept past Netherlands 3/0 behind the singles and doubles play of Jane Lutz (#2) and Lucille Kyvallos (#1). They have a day off and play for the gold on Saturday.
Many of the non deciding doubles weren’t played because of the weather, which forced the organizers to put singles matches on as soon as a tie was decided. Good weather is forecast the rest of the week.
