Rain Postpones Play in Boca Raton Wednesday; Women’s 60s Advance to Final

The USA Women’s 60 team beat the rain and reached the final today, beating Australia 2/1 behind the strong singles play of Fran Chandler at #2 (eking out a 75 67 74 win over Wanda Howes) and Vicki Buholz (62 63 over Michelle Hill) at #1. Australia took the doubles point in a match tiebreak over Gayle Prejean/Buholz. Mary Dailey unfortunately is down with bronchitis and unable to complete the competition. They will face defending champions Germany in the final.

The men’s 55 team won to advance to the semis. They beat Australia 2/0 (doubles not played) behind the singles play of Jeff Chambers at #2 and Oren Motevassel at #1.

The men’s 60 and women’s 50 both had byes today.

The women’s 55 has split with Netherlands and the deciding doubles was rained out today. Shelly Works won at #2 and Annemiek Wissink edged Jenny Klitch at #1..play resumes tomorrow. Update: W55 fell in doubles to Netherlands.

The men’s 50s are down 1/0, having lost a long match at #2 according to captain Eoin Collins, but Eoin, playing #1 singles is up 52 when the rains hit. They resume at 11am tomorrow. Update: Eoin fell in 3 sets at #1 singles, so USA lost 2/0. Play for 5-8 next.
