Santa Maria del Cami Market & the Dry Stone Route

Today was an off day from Tennis, so I went to the Sunday market in Santa Maria, which is about 15 minutes from Bunyola.

It was another hot day in Mallorca, and the market wasn’t quite as busy as I expected. There were the usual fruit and vegetable stands, featuring locally, grown tomatoes, peppers, strawberries, and more; lots of sausages and cheeses, olives, roasted chickens (and live chickens, though not at the same stalls), clothing of all sorts, especially underwear, baskets, ceramics & more. It was sort of a combination of a fruit and vegetable market and a flea market.

This market had live animals, parakeets, and a lot of chickens and some ducks.

I bought some spicy olives, wandered to the market and also into the nearby Eroski grocery store and into the fruit and vegetable store along the edge of the market. there was a lot of chocolate milk in the supermarket and a lot of Nutella!

I spent about an hour to an hour and a half at the market and then went back to my Airbnb. I decided to take a walk in the late afternoon along the dry stone route, I had noticed earlier in the week. It’s a very long route, but I only walked a little over 2 miles past some old orchards & horse farms. There definitely were a lot of stones, both in the decrepit fences along the side of the route, and in the ground itself. But it was a pretty walk and shaded.

Tomorrow I play tennis early and then I’m off for Barcelona for my last tournament of this trip.

  1. A delight reading your comments. How wonderful it is being able to travel with a reason. Memories of my time with Mirek and the fun places we used to stay with Grayson and Virginia, Austria, Klosters, S.of France, and Spain, all decades ago! Claire.

    • Nice to hear from you Claire, and they loved those trips and visiting you and Mirek. I miss the Klosters tournament
