SoCal 55s Face Southern in 55 Intersectional Final; Florida Into 65 Intersectional Final

SoCal 55s swept #3 seed Florida today in the 55s. Tina Karwasky played a perfect match to beat Kerry Young 61 60 and Tracey Thompson won at #3 singles against Tracy Viebrock in near flawless play as well, winning 62 61; Tracy V commented that she had no answers to Tracey T’s stellar play. I beat Mary Ginnard 63 63; the other two matches had finished just as we finished the first set, and the match only lasted about 2 hours! Robin Harris/Kandy Chain played a highly entertaining match at #1 doubles against Cindy Leprevost/Betsy Savitt, winning 67 64 62. Una Davis/Jackie Heston blitzed past Lil Peltz-Petow/Kathy Foulk 62 60.

Southern won 5/0 against NorCal. The match of the day was Diane Barker vs Leslie Murveit; Leslie played lights out tennis to win the second set but Diane rebounded to take the third set 62 on another breezy day in Florida.

In the 65s, Florida edged New England 3/2 behind singles wins by Betty Wachob and Toni Novack and a doubles win by Wachob/Trish Faulkner (who was the Florida’s team “secret weapon”).

Southern had a big edge on SoCal when we left around 5pm; they were up 2/1 after the singles and up a set at #2 doubles and had split sets at #1 doubles.

The big dinner is tomorrow…and out finals at 8am. More on Friday…

  1. Congratulations, Carolyn on your “stellar” playing and the entire team, as well. Would have loved to be there to see it all, but Intermountain doesn’t have enough players to enter the Intersectionals in my age group. Thanks for the blow by blow descriptions and congrats to Tracy T. too and all the other great “hitters!” rita
