Three Peat for Canadian Hart Cup Players; Individual Play Begins

The draws and match times can be found by clicking here

Canada won the Doris Hart Cup for the third time. Rosie Asch was too strong at #2 singles. In the marquee match of the day, Muffie Grieve, defending world champion, edged Margaret Robiinson, the world #1. Both players move well and are complete players. Grieve played an aggressive first set and won it 62. Robinson moved better and controlled more points as Grieve also made more errors. The 80s play a match tiebreak and Canada won it 10-8 after numerous momentum changes. Australia beat Canada to take the doubles point.

Australia finished second and France edged Great Britain, splitting the singles and taking the doubles point in a match tiebreak 10-7 or 10-8.

The opening ceremonies took place for the individual world championships just after the Doris Hart Cup was presented. It went well and there was an interesting drum group that played.

I am on my way home, but the individuals continues through next Sunday.

  2. Carolyn, Thanks for all the hard work on keeping us informed on the team play. Almost felt like I was there. You continue to do a good job despite the “challenges” with the USTA. See you at Chamisal.. Kathy
