Sheila Weinstock writes from Umag for the USA Queens Cup Team, a 2/0 Winner over GBR:

Our team played Great Britain in the semi finals of the Queen’s Cup today and are into the finals scheduled for tomorrow. Our United States team has won all their four matches  in singles as well as doubles .  We have not lost one point playing our way to the finals!

USA GBR
We had a big thunderstorm which halted play today, but our team won its  semi final  match over Great Britain before the rains came. Both singles players, Donna Fales & Charleen Hillebrand, won their singles matches which gave the team the win. The doubles was not played because of the weather and the fact that the match had already been won.
After the match both the United States players and the Great Britain players had coffee together (shown below), to relax and enjoy their time together on a more personal level. (Picture below).

Tomorrow (Saturday, Sept. 17) the United States team plays for the Queens’ Cup in the finals against either France or Germany whose match could not be completed today because of the inclement weather.

The USA Doris Hart Cup (W80), also advanced today over France 2/0.

Carol Wood, the captain reports:

We beat France today . I won 60 62.  Burnette [Herrick] won 60 64. The doubles was not played because of rain. Burnette finished just as it started . They have several indoor courts which they finally decided to use. When we left the club Canada was ready to play doubles  against GBR -they split the singles so I don’t know who we play in the final – and it’s supposed to rain tomorrow and Sunday. {Ed. note: GBR beat #2 seeded Canada 2/1, taking the doubles point. The USA beat GBR in the round robin stage, but GBR has very tough doubles; the USA won both singles that time but not the doubles…). Burnett in action below.
