USA Wins Four of Six Ties on Day 1 in Portugal at the ITF Masters World Team Championships (30/35/40

The USA won in all but the W30 and M40, and even those were hotly contested ties.

W30s Cup: USA lost 2/1 to Great Britain; Monica Hoz de Vila won at #2 singles in a four hour match 76 (8) 0-6, 7-5; Mylene Martin fell at #1 63 75 and GBR beat Evgenia Docktor/Erika Takeuchi 64 62 in the deciding doubles. Erika said the afternoon matches were finished before they were! (Some ties start in the afternoon, but the USA/GBR tie had a morning start)

W35: Lenglen Cup: USA beat Switzerland 3/0; Marikoi Fritz-Krockow labored for nearly four hours to win at #2 singles 76 (1) in the third; Kristen Bleakley sealed the win at #1 3,2 and Mariana Correa and Stephanie Wallace made it 3/0 with a 61 61 win in doubles.

W40: Young Cup: USA beat Canada 3/0; Kaysie Smashey at #2, Anda Perianu at #1 and Jennifer Sinclair/Yulia Bolotova won the doubles, all in straight sets. They take on Switzerland tomorrow.

M30 Cup: USA beat Ireland 3/0, not dropping a set behind the singles play of Christopher Chris at #2, Jayson Amos at #1 and Ismael Lahlou/Ilia Shatashvili in doubles, not dropping a set along the way.

M35: Italia Cup: USA beat India 3/0; Tyler Browne won at #2 3,0; Christian Guevara won at #1 76 64 and Browne/Nichoals Brunner took the doubles point 1,1.

M40: Tony Trabert Cup: France beat USA 3/0 in a very tough tie. Gregory Artzt lost 2,4 at #2; Matt Hane lost 46 62 63 at #1 to Jacques Glen and Glen/Romain Jurd, France won the doubles over Darrin Cohen/Ryan Sablan 67 63 10-6.
