This week’s tournament is being held at the venerable Lauderdale Tennis Club in Fort Lauderdale and features women’s 45/55/65/75 age divisions.
The tournament is smaller than in years past, but there are some strong players such as Susan Wright, Tisha Kilburn, Gwenda Ward, Vicki Buholz, Terri Thyssen and more.
I am playing 65 singles and doubles (with Susan Wright), singles at 9am and doubles now at 1pm (originally at 10:30 am which would have been great but the times have changed pretty often.
Vicki beat Andrea Askowitz in 55 singles in a match tiebreak (apparently they are changing the scoring back to a full 2 out of 3 sets starting tomorrow according to Vicki..I don’t know since there was no mention of playing match tiebreakers in the main draw on the website). Now she has a day off while the top half of the draw plays tomorrow, same with doubles.
The weather has been great, highs in the 80s and pretty humid with light breezes, perfect Florida February weather.
I am all for the match tie-breaker. Not only do players end up playing long three-setters, but the following matches have to wait sometimes for two or more hours to play their match. Scheduling is much easier, matches are more competitive, and there is far less wear and tear on players.
