Anne Guerrant won the 55s title here, her 3rd straight 55s singles title. She beat the ageless Heide Orth, the 2nd seed, 64 63. Heide will be eligible for the 65s next year. Susan Bramlette, the 3rd seed, took a set off Heide in the semis and did the same off of Ching Ling Chang in the 3/4 playoff, but Chang rebounded and won the final sets and the bronze ball.
The long match in this division was the 3 hour plus match in the quarters between Bramlette and Harpold. Bramlette won 64 64, but the score doesn’t reflect the length of the match.
Orth combined with Kathy Bennett (fresh off of a win at the 120 and over combined age husband/wife gold ball event at Mission Hills with Richard Doss) to beat Bramlette/Dee Williams Horne in 3 sets. Margie Cooper/Kerry Young beat Liz Leigh/Harpold in 3 sets in the 3/4 playoff, reversing the results of their match at Checket Cup about a month earlier. McGinley/Dennis placed 5th over Daniels/Bryson.
