Today started early as I had a 9am final. Vicki Buholz and I warmed up at 8am, then I went to the red clay courts and Vicki stayed on the green (or grey as they call it here) clay. I played Jeanie MacEarchen the #2 seed and played well to win the title. Before our match was finished I saw Vicki’s opponent, the #2 seed from Japan, Motoko Sumi walk over so I knew something had happened to Vicki, who had been nursing a pulled glute or hamstring. It turned out that Motoko had dropshotted Vicki on the second point and she’s further hurt her leg.
Vicki had some treatment and her leg wrapped and obtained clearance to play the doubles which she was determined to play. We won the doubles even though Vicki was hopping around on one leg (and was still the best player on the court!). So we won the doubles!
Americans, though few in number, did well overall. Toni Novak won the 75 singles. Helga Immerfall won the 70 singles in a 3-setter over Michelle Hall. Helga has improved a lot over the past few years and is a tough out. Malcom Swanson won the 85 singles and doubles (with Nick Ourusoff). Daniel Grossman is in the M70 final (with Andrew Rae, AUS). Robert Graham (M70) fell in the final to Rolf Jung from Netherlands in three sets and took out Rae in the first round. Cranston Darris lost in the 70 mixed final.
I took a short walk after the doubles final to take a few photos of the Tremblant Village from Lac Tremblant. I am off to Peru tomorrow or would have hiked up the mountain!
I left Mont Tremblant with fewer (but still some) bug bites than usual, the Off extra duty worked!
