Mont Tremblant Doubles Champion & Hiking the Mountain

Draws are here.

Saturday was a fun, busy, long day in Mont Tremblant. We started by warming up at 7:30 as usual since Vicki Buholz had a singles match against her Marble Cup teammate and usual doubles partner and friend, Jenny Rens. While they were starting the match I loaded my stuff from our apartment into the car, did some cleaning up (garbage, extra food etc) and returned as quickly as possible to watch the match. It was Vicki’s day and surface and she won in straight sets, playing bold, calculated tennis.

Other singles winners included Gwenda Ward USA who dropped one game in four matches to win the 75s; Serge Gressy of France, M70s who beat Canada’s Brian Millar, Norbert Henn, Germany, who cruised to the title over the top seed from Morocco in M65 and Wanda Howes of Australia who beat top seeded Jeanne MacEachern to win the W65. Results of other divisions can be found by clicking on the relevant draw or looking at the match results from Thursday/Friday/Saturday.

In doubles Vicki and I beat Howes and MJ Pachl (USA) to win the 60s and Rens combined with Monica Yanagi of Brazil to win the 55 doubles.

After we all took various photos with our giant medals, and it being a beautiful day (temperatures around 72 F/22 C) we decided to go for a hike to the top of the gondola. We took the Grand-Brule hike. I’m not sure how long it was but at the end of the day my watch had around 28000 steps and 112 flights of stairs…It was worth the walk though, the views were beautiful, we walked past waterfalls, over small bridges and through fern edged forest. At the end of the hike we planned to take the gondola down, and Adam Keller (Jenny’s spouse) had looked up the closing time…6:30pm. When we got there though we had to talk the employee at the top into letting us go down…he thought the gondola closed at 5pm! (Which it did…except for Sat/Sun starting June 14th…which was yesterday). Anyway, we did get the gondola down, had a nice dinner together in town, and parted ways. Vicki and I walked to our car (and saw a deer along the way), and drove to the Montreal Airport. I checked us into the in terminal hotel, Vicki took the bags up and I returned the rental car (taking a circuitous route since I missed two turns along the way and it was pretty dark).

I’m off now to Lima, Vicki to Dallas, Jenny and Adam to La Jolla…but tennis brought us together and will bring us back together soon.

Adieu Canada, Hola Peru!
