Palm Beach Gardens National Women’s 40-80 Clay Courts Day 1

Draws are here.

The 40-80 Level 1 Women’s Clay began today in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The Palm Beach Gardens Tennis Center is a fantastic public facility with 20 Har-Tru courts and a brand new clubhouse with a restaurant and pro shop, multiple porches and lots of TVs showing tennis.

I practiced early and then warmed up Susan Wright who played Terri Thyssen. She won and plays the blockbuster match in the 60s tomorrow against Fran Chandler, a match that normally would be a semi or final. I play Anna Greer and Tracey Thompson plays Debbie Crowley.

Another tough match tomorrow is Marlo Carruth vs Amy Alcini in the 50s, both from SoCal. In fact they normally play a practice match every Friday.

There weren’t a lot of matches today, but there will be lots of action tomorrow.

In the evening there was a nice memorial for Lu Fendig who passed away in July. Lu was an amazing tennis player, photographer, excellent bridge player and very nice person. Also we won a gold ball together!
