I played my first match at the ITF Super Seniors World Championships, beating Jeanne MacEachern of Canada 61 60 in a match that was closer and longer than the score would indicate. We had some good rallies, especially since it was quite windy, and she smacked her forehand onto some lines. We played at the Boynton Beach Tennis Center, but the courts today were in good condition at 1pm, level and not too dry despite the wind. The rain the past few days really helped!
Susan Wright won too and my doubles partner Carolyn Lane won her mixed with partner Stephen Dance. from Australia.
Most results aren’t posted but I noticed that Camina Borda, the 5th seed in M75, fell to Owen Robertson from USA; Dan Waldman advanced but had to play a tiebreak in the second set; Tim Garcia took out the 25th seed from Finland in Men’s 65 (Berner).
Correction: Camina Borda won in 3 sets. The result originally posted was the reverse.
In an unfortunate turn of events, Toni Novack, USA W70 took out her doubles partner, Dagmar Sperneder with one of her infamous dropshots…in practice…Toni hit it, Dagmar ran for it and injured her hamstring and is out of singles anyway. I probably learned a lesson from that…do not drop shot in warm up! (Save it for service returns at least.)
The updates have just been posted: I play Sylvie Giraud of France at 1pm at Quail Ridge. We play doubles at 5:30 at the same location against Abbi Neuthaler who is a member there and Jenny Cerff.
