The USA M85 and W80 were both in groups of four an thus were the only USA teams to compete on Tuesday in Crete, Greece.
The W80 beat So Africa today with Betty Wachob & Sue Kimball winning at #2 and #1 singles respectively, while captain Brenda Carter and rookie Mary Alice Pisani swept the doubles…the team did not lose a set in three ties.
The M85 had a tougher go against France, dropping #2 singles in a match tiebreaker (the 80s and 85s play match tiebreakers in lieu of third sets while the 75s play out any third sets). Jimmy Washington dropped the first match 62 26 10-4 at #2 singles; Bob Quall won at #1 singles 61 64 and Jerald Hayes/Wilbur Jones won the deciding doubles 62 61.
The medal rounds begin tomorrow.
M75 play #2 seeded Australia on Court 10 tomorrow in the quarterfinals.
W75 are in a three team round robin for the Cup with Australia and Great Britain. They play Australia tomorrow on Court 2 which I believe is a streaming court (Crete is 10 hours ahead of the USA West Coast).
M80 are in the top seeds and in the semis. They face Switzerland tomorrow on Court 11.
W80 are also in a three team round robin, with France and USA. USA plays top-seeded France on Court 4 tomorrow.
M85 are in a three team round robin as well, with Chile and Germany. They have a bye tomorrow.
W85 are in the semis and have a day off tomorrow, Wednesday.
