The Men’s 80s, Gardnar Mulloy Cup team did not lose a set against their final round British opponents, with Geoff Moore beating Richard Tutt 62 75; Michael Beautyman took out Chris Ornstein 3,4 and Jimmy Parker/Moore beating Nigel Barker/Keith Clark 0,1. Congrats Geoff, Michael, Jimmy and Les on winning the gold!
The Women’s 85 team beat Germany to win the Women’s 85 Angela Mortimer Cup! Sheila Palmer dropped the #2 singles match 4,3 to Christiane Spitznagel; Donna Fales then took over, winning her singles against Viktoria Aselmann 60 60 and teaming with Palmer to win the doubles point 62 60. Sheila was out practicing doubles at the Ranch Santa Fe Tennis Club (which has a couple of the rare clay courts in Southern California) diligently at it payed off! Congratulations Donna, Roz, Dorothy (edited) and Sheila, and Roz, feel better soon.
The Women’s 80s team finished second yesterday, losing to France and beating Germany in the medal rounds. France easily won today against Germany.
The Men’s 85 team lost to Germany today 2/1; Bernd Mueller edged Jimmy Washington 63 57 13-11 (sooo close); Eckard Kaercher beat Bob Quall at #1 singles 3,1 and Jerald Burton and Wilbur Jones finished the week unbeaten, winning against Berthold Landthaler/Ulrich Muenzer 46 63 10-7.
The Women’s 75 finished third yesterday losing both round robin matches in the doubles match tiebreakers. Great result considering that captain Judy Dixon hurt her wrist practicing the day before the Cup.
The Men’s 75s, who fell to eventual champions Australia, in the quarters, rebounded well to take fifth in the Men’s 75, Bitsy Grant Cup. David Fish at #2 won his singles; Marc Mazo fell at #1 but Dave Sivertson/Fish demolished their British opponents to win the tie.

Good luck to all the players in the individual world championships next week.
